Case Study

A proposed solution to a problem, including justification, specifications, and planning details.
Creative Work
An original piece that reflects the creator's technical skill, artistic or innovative effort in producing a tangible or digital product.
Critical Analysis
Systematic evaluation and interpretation based on specific criteria of a subject to discuss its deeper meaning and relevance, often through a detailed examination of its components and their interrelationships.
Data Collection and/or Analysis
Gathering data through either quantitative or qualitative methods, enabling analysis and interpretation within a given context or research study.
Design Project
A body of work in response to a commission or design challenge.
Discussion
Articulation and critical evaluation of concepts, ideas or positions within the context of an interactive group exchange.
Essay
A written piece that follows a form of introduction, provocation, complication and resolution/conclusion.
Interactive Questions
Questions answered by sorting, categorising, matching, or filling in the blanks.
Interview
A structured, interactive conversation between two or more people where questions are asked to elicit facts or statements from an interviewee. The learner may take the role of interviewer or interviewee.
Learning Journal
A record of a learner’s reflections and progress in learning, helping to capture their personal development and understanding over time.
Linguistics Exercise
An analysis of language features, structures, and usage to deepen understanding of linguistic principles and theories.
Literature Review
A structured critical analysis and synthesis of existing research on a specific topic to highlight trends, developments, and gaps in the field. Can be conducted as part of a research project or independently.
Media Task
Creation or analysis of multimedia content such as video, audio, presentations, or other digital artefacts.

Oral Defence

Performance
A live demonstration through enactment or creative work, typically in the presence of an audience.
Persuasive Piece
Research and argument for or against a specific issue or position. Can include assessment of logic and reasoning, persuasive writing, and comprehensive planning details.
Placement or Workplace-based Assessment
A holistic assessment of competencies demonstrated during a placement or another period in a workplace.
Portfolio
A curated collection of artifacts, such as projects, assignments, or reflections, showcasing a learner’s progress and achievements.
Problem Solving
Task Development of solutions or strategies to challenges within a real-world or theoretical context.
Professional Simulation
An assessment within a simulated setting, based on discipline specific criteria.
Proposal
Argument which sets out the aims, context, purpose and intentions of a possible solution or course of action. May include evaluation of alternatives.
Report
A highly structured narrative that provides a factual and logically organised account of a topic, situation, or event, typically including analysis and recommendations for addressing relevant issues or challenges.
Short Response Questions
Short responses to questions or prompts around a specific topic.
Skills Demonstration
A point-in-time demonstration of proficiency in technical or professional abilities through practical tasks or simulations. Typically undertaken in a simplified setting rather than in a workplace or simulated workplace.
Thesis
A comprehensive and original research document written as a culmination of academic study on a specific topic within a field of study based on discipline specific criteria.
